Notes - Capt. Richard Brackett, was one of the first of names in America. It is known that he was in the colony of Massachusetts Bay as early as 1630. He probably came with Gov. Winthrop in 1629. In 1629, the year he came to America, Richard Brackett was about seventeen years old.
Other Bracketts in the Bay colony at an early date were Peter Brackett of Boston, and Thomas Brackett of Salem.
There are many books in the libraries here in Mass, on the Bracketts, among them are:
Brackett Genealogy Book, By Herbert I. Brackett 1907
History of Billerica,Mass. by Hazen.
The American Genealogist
New England Historical Genealogical Register
The Memorial History of Boston, MA. 1630 -- 1680 Vol. I. page xxiv.
Also Vol 2 page 543.
Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants to New England 1620-1650,
by Charles Edward Banks, Page 166.
City, State and Federal Vital Records.
IGI files, Mormon Church.
Fifty Great Migration Colonists to New England and Their Origins:
"The Brackett-Blower-Frost Ancestry" by John Brooks Threlfall, Page 63-116.
Richard Brackett the jailer is also in the book THE SCARLET LETTER, BY
NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE; page 57-58.
Up date Note: The Roland Brackett that so many people have put in their records thinking he belongs to Peter Brackett & Rachelle of Sudbury Suffolk, England, he does not belong at all. Check the records and the history books.
There is a Roland Brackett that is recorded on a IGI file # page17,654 London, England, no parents just him marrying a Alice??????
That particular entry of the name Roland, may very well be an error itself because I do not believe
Roland was a Brackett name in that era. I have not found it used elsewhere in Brackett records then.
Also the Anthony Brackett line that is in the Brackett Genealogy book is a different line of the Brackett
families that the author wrote about and Richard Brackett is not a brother of Anthony.
