Participating in the service today are the Reverend Ralph A. Christie, minister to the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Middletown, the Reverend George L. Withey, minister to the First Methodist Church, Middle-town, Dr. James F. English, Superintendent of the Connecticut Congregational Conference the Reverend Warren Archibald, minister to the South Church, Congregational, Hartford, and the Reverend Browne Barr, present minister of the South Church, of Middletown.
The Reverend Herbert Duncan Rollason was born in Saffron Walden, England, January 1, 1886, and died at Ipswitch, Massachusetts, April 18, 1947. He was born the son of a Baptist minister who died when Mr. Rollason was fourteen years old. His father's death made it necessary for him to leave school. He worked for five years before he was able to come to the United States and continue his education at Keystone Academy. He was graduated from Brown University in 1913 and in 1916, upon graduation from Andover Theological Seminary, he was ordained, married, and installed as minister of the Congregational Church in Hanover, Connecticut.
During his pastorate in Hanover a new parish house was built and extensive work was carried on for the benefit and welfare of the entire community. In January 1921 he was called to assume the ministry of the South Church, Middletown, which he served until illness made his retirement imperative in September 1943. In Middletown he was president of the Council of Social Agencies for several years, president of the Exchange Club, a member of the Conversational and University Clubs and served on the Executive Committee of the Missionary Society of Connecticut. He was also a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge of Masons, number 75, of Jewett City. Mr. Rollason is survived by his wife, Susan Wales Rollason, his daughter, Mrs. Edward L. Greenebaum, his three sons, Herbert Duncan, Jr., John Wales, and David Hunt and by four grandchildren.
A loyal minister of Christ, a devoted scholar of His Word, a faithful servant of His people, his works do follow after him.
