Deacon Job Lane was born June 22, 1689 in Billerica, MA to Major John Lane and Susannah Whipple. Job Lane lived on the old homestead currently at 295 North Street, Bedford, MA. The Job Lane house, pictured in this section, is owned by the town of Bedford and is operated as a museum. A friendly group of volunteers dress in period clothes and conduct tours of the property and architecture. In 1706, Job was on the ‘indian scout that went the rouns with Mager Lane’ (his father – Major John Lane). On April 16, 1735 Job was commissioned Lieutenant of Troops by Governor William Dummer. Job held many town positions to include Selectman of Billerica, Surveyor, and church deacon from 1737 until his death in 1762.

On December 17, 1713 Job Lane married Martha Ruggles and together they had eleven children. Martha Ruggles was descended from the Ruggles family of Roxbury, and Governor Thomas Dudley.
